I’ve met my share of ambitious people over the years to know that many of them are driven, maybe insane. It seems to be part of the territory.

So the question is, were they insane because they were ambitious or were they ambitious because they were insane? You know, the chicken or the egg thing?

I think if you are in automotive sales or marketing you are probably pretty insane, at least in your own peculiar way. I’m sure many of you would even say I have my moments, but let’s not go there today!

So if you are going to be insane, what we call normal in automotive sales and marketing, we might as well channel it into something useful, or ambitious.

Secretly I can say we probably have heard that voice inside our head that asks, “Am I insane?”

And the answer is . . .

Yes.

Ambition requires us to take risks; it requires us to step into the unknown at times. It makes us rise to the challenge. It even sometimes hurts. It was Benjamin Franklin who said, “The things which hurt, instruct.”

Ambition is a matter of the heart.  Don Henley said, “I’ve been tryin’ to get down to the heart of the matter.”

Pretty insane.
