We all know automotive marketing has changed. It has taught us “experienced” automotive guys to move quickly and to adjust as marketing changes. Our experiences have made us mentally and professionally strong, nimble and agile. We see change as opportunity to step into rather than to fear. It’s taken a lot of practice but I think we’re getting the hang of it.
What we are is changing quickly. What we must be, is even more so.
I consider myself as one of the lucky ones. There are many in the automotive industry, you know some of them. They are the ones completely lost and looking like deer in headlights. They are just trying to hold on to what they have, or more accurately, what they had.
Even if we are the lucky ones, it’s not easy. Change requires a lot from us.
- Change requires patience. There is no shortcut to mattering to our ourselves or our customers. The quick fix isn’t quick anymore.
- Change requires us to think. One of the reasons people don’t achieve their dreams is that they desire to change their results without changing their thinking. Changing your thinking is a daily task.
- Change requires new habits. Success comes to those who habitually do things that unsuccessful people don’t do. Unsuccessful people focus on survival. Average people focus on maintenance. Successful people focus on progress. Ninety-five percent of achieving anything is knowing what you want and paying the price to get it.
- Change requires you to stretch. You can go much farther with a talented team than you can go alone. If you have a great idea and spend time shaping that idea, don’t stop there. If you do, you will miss bringing other talent in and expanding ideas to their greatest potential.
- Change requires action. When you have a problem to solve or a project to complete: Do your homework. Work through the pros and cons. Find the worst-case scenario. Align your thinking, talent and resources. Take action.
So what is change requiring from you?
